The Hong Kong International Literary Festival
The
Hong Kong International Literary Festival is organised and coordinated
by Hong Kong International Literary Festival Limited, a registered
company limited by guarantee that is run as a not-for-profit
organisation. Featuring overseas and local authors, the Festival offers a
ten-day programme of literary events annually in October. The Festival
has become an important and significant event on the international arts
calendar, with programmes that include winners of the world's leading
literary prizes: Man Booker, Nobel Prize in Literature, Pulitzer Prize,
National Book Award, Costa Whitbread Book Award, Carnegie Medal,
Kiriyama Prize, Prix Goncourt and the Commonwealth Writers Prize. The
Festival's international status is clearly confirmed by both the quality
of authors and range of countries represented. Each year, the programme
offered promises to be as vibrant as Hong Kong is exciting, as dynamic
as Hong Kong is cosmopolitan and as diverse as Hong Kong is
multicultural.
The Hong
Kong International Literary Festival celebrates creative writing in
English and emphasises writing with an Asian connection. The Festival
features both established and emerging authors and includes works in
translation, literary fiction and non-fiction, poetry and scriptwriting.
The Festival unites authors and readers and promotes the literary arts
and a love of literature.
The
Schools Programme has been a popular component of the Hong Kong
International Literary Festival from the very beginning. Every year we
have invited students to experience a wonderful programme that allows
them to interact with, learn from and be inspired by acclaimed, popular
and beloved authors.
The
Festival commits to investing in the readers and writers of the future.
By presenting a programme that allows readers and writers of all ages to
interact, we wish to encourage an appreciation of the written word and
to foster a love of literature. We hope that the Schools Programme will
have a lasting impact on the students who attend.
Please note that these events are for school groups only as they take place during school hours.
The
Hong Kong International Literary Festival is a not-for-profit
organisation with a very small staff and limited financial resources. We
rely on the generosity of individuals and corporations to keep the
Festival going from year to year. Sponsorships also help us to provide a
wide range of events, including university lectures and free events.
They also help us to keep prices for our Schools Programme low so that
as many students as possible can attend.
